Q&A with Opencourt
1. What inspired you to create Opencourt, and how is it different from a traditional tennis club?
“Opencourt was born from a desire to reimagine what tennis could look like—more social, more modern, and more reflective of the way people want to move and connect today. We wanted to create something that felt fresh and approachable, without the pressure of memberships or rigid structures. What sets us apart is the energy. We’re building a community-first tennis experience that blends high-quality coaching with dynamic events and a welcoming atmosphere. It’s tennis with a pulse, and it’s open to anyone who wants to play.”
2. How do your junior clinics support both skill development and personal growth for kids?
“Our junior clinics are designed to do more than just teach tennis. They help kids build confidence, resilience, and a sense of teamwork. On court, we focus on strong fundamentals through game-based learning that keeps players engaged and moving. Off court, we create an environment that encourages positive communication, sportsmanship, and self-belief. Whether a child is new to tennis or training for competition, we support them as athletes and as individuals.”
3. What does community mean to Opencourt, and how do you foster that both on and off the court?
“Community is at the heart of everything we do. We started Opencourt to shake up the traditional tennis scene and offer a more social, energized space where people can connect. It’s not about exclusivity or outdated club rules. It’s about creating a space where adults and kids from across Santa Barbara can rally, compete, and hang out. From liveball socials and weekend tournaments to courtside gatherings, we are building something new—centered around connection.”
4. What options are available for parents or adult players who want to get back into the game or try tennis for the first time?
“We offer adult clinics for every level, from beginner to advanced. Classes are held on weekends and weekday evenings, making it easier to fit into a busy schedule. It’s also a great way to meet people and stay active, whether you're new to the sport or returning after a break.”
5. For families new to tennis, what’s the best way to get started with Opencourt?
“The best place to start is by visiting our website, opencourtsb.com. Families can check out our full summer schedule, browse junior programs, and learn about community events. Everything is designed to be clear and easy to book. Whether your child is a first-time player or looking to level up, we've created a welcoming space where learning and fun go hand in hand.”
